Charmed
Cottage

I purchased
this unique piece of property on October 9th, 2007.
The first word
that came to mind when I saw this cottage was CHARMING.
11 acres of
privacy and beauty.
Year-Round Views!
A gentle stream
with the constant, relaxing sound of the waterfall.
All the windows
and doors are from the Grayson (?) Mansion in Asheville.
The cabin features
four decks:
- an
intimate dining deck with a spectacular view
-an intimate
conversation deck with a spectacular view
- one huge deck,
the size of a four car garage for group get-togethers (maybe
weddings) or lazing
the day away
- one large deck
on a grassy knoll with 6-8 person hot tub and that spectacular view
It features a wood
burning fireplace.
Three bedrooms
(sleeps 6).
Two king beds and
two twin-size beds. Twin beds can be converted to king
prior to your arrival.
So...essentially,
we can sleep 6 adults in 3 high-quality king beds with luxurious
linens.
Cashmere-like
robes for 6 adults.
Refrigerator with
ice-maker, a dishwasher and a new gas range & microwave.
Two living areas:
one for reading and conversation by the fire

spectacular view) and the other for
watching TV and that spectacular view.
Two dining areas:
a dining counter for 6 and dining table for 4.
We have three flat
panel TV's - all with DVD player built in.
Large collection
of current DVD's for your viewing pleasure.

A Bit of Trivia:
This cottage was built by Jackie
"Butch" Jenkins in 1974. Butch was a child actor who
played in many movies with Mickey Rooney. He was a popular
freckle-faced, buck-toothed child Born Jack Dudley Jenkins in
Los Angeles, California, the son of actress Doris Dudley.
Jenkins made his film debut at the age of six in "The Human Comedy" 1943.
His performance as Mickey Rooney's younger brother was well
received and Jenkins was cast in a succession of films. Among
which were "An
American Romance" 1944, "National Velvet" 1944
(Elizabeth Taylor & Mickey Rooney), "Boys Ranch" 1946,
"My Old Town" 1948, "Summer Holiday" 1948.
He was in more than 12 movies.
He got his
start after an MGM talent scout saw him
playing on a Santa Monica beach and admired
his high spirits. "Boys' Ranch" was conceived
as a showcase for MGM's newest juvenile
star, Jackie "Butch" Jenkins.
MGM had done variations of this story
several times before, in such films as
"Boys Town" and "Lord Jeff", but
audiences never seemed to tire of the
formula. "Boys Ranch" was filmed on
location at a real-life boys' ranch near
Amarillo, Texas, which provided a home and
education to underprivileged boys.
Jackie
plays Butch, the cutest and most precious of
the boys. He was regarded as a
"scene-stealer" and was notable among the
studio's child stars for not being
conventionally "cute".
Jenkins was one of several popular child
actors at MGM during the early 1940s , and
was educated at the studio's school along
with other youngsters under contract to the
studio such as Elizabeth Taylor.
His
childhood earnings were well invested for
him, leaving him independently wealthy while
still in his 30s. He left films at the
age of eleven when he developed an incurable nervous
stutter which never left him, even as an
adult. In his adult years he
supervised the East Texas Water System and
went on to become a noted entrepreneur in
Texas where he ran a chain of car wash outlets.
Jack Jenkins died April 14, 2001
in Asheville, NC.
On this mountain, he was known
simply as Jack.
You will notice two water wheels
on the property.
One in particular has a carving
that says "I LOVE YOU" "GOLDIE".
Goldie was Jack's wife. She
sold the cottage to the second owner. I am the third
owner.

Jackie Jenkins won the Critic's
Award for his performances in
National Velvet, Our Vines Have
Tender Grapes, and The Bride
Goes Wild. If you ever saw
any of Jackie's movies, you
would think this boy was having
the time of his life playing in
front of the camera. The truth
is, he hated acting. When the
pressure of the studios became
too much, he developed a
stutter. |

PLEASE NOTE - this
cottage is not wheelchair accessible.
It was built in
1974 and the stairs risers are higher than normal
and the loft
stairs are steeper than normal.
This cottage is
not recommended for those with health concerns...especially knee
problems.

Our first guests
at the cottage were the Hoffmann Family from New York on April 17, 2008 for 8
nights.
It was exciting
to share this new cottage with them and hopefully you - very
soon.
